MI Tells Olamide ‘Don’t Consider Yourself Successful Yet’

During one of the many exciting sessions at the just concluded Nigerian Entertainment Conference, Chocolate City rapper, MI took some time off to dole out advise to rapper, Olamide.

“What advise do you have for someone like Olamide, who isn’t signed to any label but has continued to remain relevant in the music scene?”, Osagie Alonge, moderator of the session had asked MI and in response, he said,

“If I met Olamide today, I would tell him not to consider himself as successful yet. Success takes a long time. Recently, I discovered First Bank has been in existence for over 120 years, that is success. Audu Maikori is about to step down as CEO of a label after 10 years and the label will still continue, that is success.”

‘I would also advise him’, he continued ‘…to hire people who have more knowledge than him and build a structure around them’

The session, Not Dying Soon, had the rapper deliver an emotional address about why his Chocolate City label will not go extinct. It was followed by a panel session that had him, Seyi Shay and MD of Megaletrics, Deji Awokoya answer questions from Alonge.

Whats your say about what M.I Said? Your comment.

Supreme Court to decide Fayose's fate today

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state will today know his fate as the Supreme court will be delivering judgement on the petition filed by the APC challenging his victory at the June 21 2014 governorship election. APC in its petition, had alleged that unlawful use of soldiers, intimidation of its supporters and compromised ballot papers were used to achieve his victory at last year's elections. The APC had lost in an earlier petition at the Ekiti state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on December 19, 2014 which upheld Governor Fayose’s victory. A dissatisfied APC approached the Supreme court for further hearing on the matter.
Meanwhile tension has reportedly gripped the state as both party supporters are awaiting the outcome of the supreme court judgement today.

Game of Thrones Season 5 Premiere Recap: Find Out Who Died in a Fire in "The Wars to Come"

HBO's epic fantasy drama returned for its fifth season on Sunday, April 12, and wasted no time getting deep into the backdoor dealings and political intrigues of Westeros. The motivations of one enigmatic character were finally revealed in this episode, plus a peek into the past of another. Read on to find out what happened in "The Wars to Come"

The first scene of this season features two teenage girls we've never seen before -- but a smug glare and obvious daddy issues identify the blonde one immediately as a young Cersei Lannister. The girls enter a creepy cottage, one inhabited by a witch who can supposedly see the future. The witch tells Cersei that she can ask three questions, but warns her that she won't like the answers, which foretell Cersei's brief tenure as queen, followed by her fall from power and favor.
DOWNLOAD Season 5 Episode 1
And her children? "Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds," says the witch.
In other words, Tommen and Myrcella should be watching their royal behinds right about now, lest they meet the same early demise as big brother Joffrey. And it also explains why present-day Cersei (Lena Headey) is very, very paranoid about what will become of their family now that Tywin Lannister is no  more.
Other Intrigues at Court
Tywin's murder might be bad news for the Lannister clan, but it's welcome news for Ser Loras Tyrell (Finn Jones), who assumes that his betrothal to Cersei is now as cold and dead as the man who arranged it. He takes the opportunity to recommence flagrant, naked canoodling with his brothel-managing boyfriend, despite Margaery's suggestions that discretion might be in order. (It's good advice, but here's hoping he doesn't take it for at least another few episodes, because the boyfriend has an immaculately photogenic butt.)
Also of note: There's a new wrinkle in the fabric of society at King's Landing in the form of a group of religious fanatics known as the Sparrows. Among them is Cersei's cousin and erstwhile lover Lancel Lannister (Eugene Simon), who seems to have found religion but also seriously lost touch with reality.

Meanwhile, a Eunuch Walks Into a Whorehouse...
No, this isn't the start of a bawdy Westerosian joke; it's the start of some serious trouble for Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), as one of her Unsullied is brutally murdered by a mercenary group called the Sons of the Harpy. She's also having problems with the lords back in Yunkai, who want to reopen the fighting pits where slaves used to battle, gladiator-style, to the death. Daenerys bristles at the suggestion that it would be good politics to allow the fights (“I'm not a politician, I'm a queen,” she retorts), but after Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman) points out that he himself parlayed his youth in the pits into a robust career as a mercenary, she seems to be reconsidering.
Also under consideration: last season's decision to lock the dragons down in the catacombs. Unfortunately, as their “mother” discovers, it looks like the dragons took that decision extremely personally. Will Daenerys be forced to leave her fire-breathing kids in dragon timeout forever? Or is this just a phase? Do dragons go through puberty?
Elsewhere in Westeros
Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) emerges in the premiere looking rather the worse for wear, having weathered an extraordinarily crappy journey out of King's Landing hidden in wooden crate. (The crate was not equipped with a toilet. You can fill in the blanks.) Now that he's out of the box, all he wants to do is drink heavily and make morose remarks about being so done with everything, but Varys has other ideas. In fact, Varys wants Tyrion's help installing a new, righteous ruler on the Iron Throne. And who might he be?
Nuh-uh, Varys says. Not he. She. And with that, the series-long mystery of Varys' true loyalty has been solved: He's on Team Daenerys! (Probably because their names rhyme so nicely.)
Violence at the Wall
Finally, we head North, where Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) is still trying to convince Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) and his Wildling army to take up arms under his command. Jon Snow takes up the cause, too -- knowing that Mance will be executed otherwise. But much as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) doesn't want Mance to be burned alive, and much as Mance doesn't particularly want to die screaming and on fire, either, he'd also rather go up in flames than go down on one knee for Stannis Baratheon.
And with that decision made, it's buh-bye, Mance Rayder. But it's not the screaming, fiery death that he feared (or that Stannis wanted); before that can happen, Jon Snow dispatches the condemned man with an arrow to the heart. It's a merciful end for Mance, but judging by the look on Stannis' face, Jon Snow's troubles have only just begun.

Nigeria tops list of countries accessing stolen data

The Cambell, Calif.-based company went on the Dark Web and planted documents filled with mocked-up data realistic enough to pass as real until the point of actually using it to make financial transitions.

According to a report the company released this Tuesday, it took just 12 days for the data to be looked at more than 1,000 times in 22 different countries. Russia and Nigeria headed up the list.

Meanwhile, according to the latest report from FireEye’s Mandiant, it takes 205 days to discover the average data breach.

“The level of access after just 12 days was extraordinary,” said the report. “Imagine how much further the data would spread in 205 days.”

StarBoy Wizzy Gets a New Manager!

If we were to count Wizkid’s “ex-es” (I’m talking about managers now), we’ll be counting Osagie Osarenkhoe, Godwin Tom, Seun Johnson…. perhaps this is why the Starboy has chosen not to be managed by anyone for some time now.

However, it seems Wizzy is also ready for “change” as he has officially unveiled a new manager. Making the revelation via his Instagram page, Ayo announced popular and well respected artiste manger/List Entertainment boss, Sunday Aare as the man who would be in charge of his musical career. Right now, the two are reportedly in South Africa where Wizkid is said to be shooting music videos off his current album ahead of the release of his next album which is also rumored to drop very soon.

PMAN President Pretty Okafor, Nigerian musicians’ll never suffer again

Pretty Okafor needs no introduction to lovers of Nigerian music. He was a member of the famous Junior and Pretty musical group. The Yaba College of Technology graduate of Fine Arts alongside Junior pioneered Afro hip-hop music in Nigeria in the late ‘80s.

Okafor, who trained under RED 14, a UK-based events company as a light, sound, set and stage engineer, currently serves as the President of Performing Musicians’ Employers Association of Nigeria (PMEAN). In this chat, he talks about how the new musicians’ body will become a force to reckon with within a short time. Excerpts:

Who do you think is a true Nigerian?

A true Nigerian believes in the culture, religion, attitude, and development of the nation. Any individual that is always particular about the focus and the direction of the nation is practically a true Nigerian worthy of recommendation.

You were recently elected the President of Performing Musicians’ Employers Association of Nigeria. No doubt, your new task comes with lots of grey areas that need urgent Midas touch. What are you going to do differently that others have not done?

I have actually been doing a whole lot differently because I started with bringing everybody together as one big family. I have been able to foster mutual cohabiting among the youth, middle and the old school musicians. Moreover, the fact that I make everybody my unique friend, it was easy for me to operate smoothly. I have tried to take away ego, we have abolished selfish interests, and we have been able to install focus and direction. When we resumed, we found out that PMAN doesn’t have a database. This made it quite impossible for us to know how many Nigerian musicians are here in the country, we don’t know how many Nigerian musicians we have across Africa, neither do we know how many of them are present worldwide. Hence, we swung into action by creating a robust database that showcases the totality of Nigerian musicians around. The database was designed in such a manner that if you click on it anywhere in the world, you will get the data of musicians whether juju, highlife, hip-hop, fuji, or any other genre available. The initiative made a whole lot of people believe in us. They were convinced that ‘these people know what they are doing’, right from the beginning of our administration. We made our unity an easy effort that you can easily register with any bank wherever you are in Nigeria, and you will be duly enlisted on the database of PMAN.

Apart from some of us who know you as a very hardworking and intelligent individual, you seem to have something special that made several corporate organisations like banks, telecoms and a whole lot of others wanting to partner with PMAN now unlike before. Could you tell us the secret behind this achievement?

I showed them the sincerity of the union. I made them realise where the union is supposed to be, and I was able to convince them what they stand to benefit if they could tap and buy into the luxury of opportunities attached to the union. I know a bank’s managing director who told me categorically that his bank had never wanted to associate with the past PMAN’s administration, but his team was totally convinced with the value added opportunity we presented to them. As you know, they are commercial and profit-based organisations, it was easy for them to key into our mission. Apart from the benefit, the issue of credibility comes in. I believe they felt they could trust both the leadership and executives of the new PMAN.

Does that mean these organisations have done thorough research about you and found out that you have an outstanding pedigree that a serious organization can relate with or you were able to win them over with your sweet mouth?

(Laughs) Not that I am a perfect person or I’m the best leader, I think it is just the grace of God and the fact that the companies were convinced while researching into my personality and PMAN. Some of them actually confessed to me during the pitching that they logged into my personal website several times to get information about me. They also confirmed to me that they did several studies about me, searching for any scandalous report, but they found only my clean slate. I am a very focus person. I have a spiritual driving force to achieve result in all my endeavours. I am very positive. I don’t believe in disappointment. My philosophy of life is to always see opportunity in every disappointment. I hate negativity.

One of the things mentioned during the press conference was that there would be health insurance for every member of PMAN. Can you expatiate on the initiative?

That is one of our plans but it is still in the pipeline. What we are driving about the union is new thinking, new ways of doing things and new focus. The database gives every member a biometric identity card that would also serve as Access Bank Master Card ATM that would make you to access any nearest hospital. The health insurance scheme is a ‘safety-first’ initiative that takes care of whatever ailment you can think of. In case of emergency, there would be an air ambulance stationed at the airport to fly the musician or any member of his or her family out of the country for instant treatment. In the case of accident and death, the scheme comes as a relief for the deceased family, as it would give nothing less than N10 million to survive the gory period.

It is understandable that there are some older musicians who wouldn’t be comfortable with your administration, how do you intend to manage these people?

First, what drives human nature is communication. A whole lot of them have been coming but we have remained firm and focus. We made them realise the need to join hands to chart a new course for the growth of PMAN instead of dragging the union backward. We have been able to show them pictures of where they are supposed to be not where they are presently, and that has cleansed any vindictive thought they might be nurturing in their minds. We made them realise that, had someone had got this structure right, majority of them would have their own private jets as some foreign musicians do. They should have houses in Banana Island. Foreign musicians live comfortably because their founding fathers got the structure right years back.

If there are huge opportunities in the music industry like these, how come the past leaders of PMAN did not tap into them?

People are different, but it could be that they only thought of personal interests and not that of the union as a whole. At times, it could be as a result of distraction. You know, the activities of the union are enormous and these could easily distract anybody. But as for me, I have come to realise that when people try to distract me on anything, it is when I strive to do that thing the more.

What about the Nigerian economy? How will the country benefit from this new initiative?

Remember I said the health insurance card is multipurpose. The same card gives pension plan for the aged. Once you are 65 or 70 and you want to retire from active music, it goes into pension plan. The same money that we set aside to manage any case of demise is the same money that will go to your pension managers to foot your bills monthly. This same structure will enable every individual in the industry to communicate on an extremely cheap rate monthly. You don’t need to spend exorbitantly on recharge cards before you can communicate with your band boys, producers, marketers, promoters, show managers or any other group associated with PMAN. All you need to do is pay a token of N500 per month. Now, it translates into you having an ATM account that connects you with royalty account. The royalty account links you with media distribution network, which works with Global System-1. The GS1 is the barcode and encoding company around the globe. This means your songs would be barcoded in a way that whenever anyone downloads it anywhere in the world, they can track it and your royalty will move straight into your royalty account. Apart from the benefits PMAN members get from this structure, it would also benefit the economy of Nigeria. According to the Minister of Finance, even without this new structure, the entertainment industry contributes about N2.3 trillion to the Nigerian economy annually. That has been all on statistics; now we are putting it right to be real. We did a whole lot with Heritage Bank, UBA, FCMB and Diamond Bank. When they came up with their own statistics, they were marveled. They claimed that if we can get the structure right as we projected, the industry would be contributing about N9 trillion yearly. Statically, if our industry can contribute that huge amount annually to the economy, we are automatically above the oil industry.

The music industry nowadays affords Nigerian musicians to travel across the globe times without number. How can interested person register for PMAN membership?

It is very simple. PMAN has gone digital now. Just go to any branch of Heritage Bank, UBA, FCMB or Diamond Bank to request for PMAN registration form. You will be registered instantly. All you need to pay is a peanut compared to the huge benefits available to you as a member of PMAN.

Iran Nuclear Deal presents MTN with $1bn windfall

South African-based telecommunications company MTN Group and the largest telephone company in Nigeria has disclosed that if after recent negotiations between the United States and Iran, sanctions against Tehran are lifted; it will be able to transfer about $1 billion in accumulated dividends and a loan repayment from its Iranian unit.

The telecommunication giant owns 49% of state-controlled Irancell and after sanctions imposed by the United Nations in 2006 it had been prohibited from sending money back to its South African Headquarters. The United States had in 1979 imposed sanctions on Iran which were later tightened in a fresh batch in 1995.

MTN’s Head of Investor Relations, Nik Kershaw revealed that the company would be able to send some of its accumulated monies if sanction were loosened:

“We have in total an equivalent of about $1 billion, which is both a loan repayment from Irancell due back to MTN, as well as accumulated dividends.”

Iran and world powers have extended negotiations to end a decade-old crisis over the Iranian nuclear programme for an agreement that ensures controls on Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

Diplomats have been seeking a deal that would allow Iran to have nuclear power but reduce the likelihood of it gaining nuclear weapons.

According to Venture Africa, MTN has been criticized for its activities in the Iranian telecoms sector by a US-based advocacy group, United Against Nuclear Iran-UANI, who initiated a campaign in 2012 calling for the South African country to reduce its operations in Iran while charging MTN of providing them with equipment and breaching Human Rights agreements.

However, MTN Human Resources Head Paul Norman denied that the company assisted the Iranian Government in monitoring political activists.

“MTN’s role in Iran is mostly as a technical partner.

“Whatever equipment MTN has acquired for Irancell was for normal business reasons. This is the same software we utilize at other MTN operations.”

Big Sean I Never Threatened Justin Bieber ... That Tweet Is a Fake!

The Big Sean/Justin Bieber feud is over before it even started ... or more accurately ... it never existed in the first place.
A rep for Big Sean tells TMZ the tweet going around in which Sean threatened Bieber for laying hands on Ariana Grande during a concert ... is a fake.
We're told Justin and Sean are good friends  ... and that he and Ariana are just fine.
Another tweet of Sean's -- "so many times in my life I wish I could of been at 2 places at once" -- also sounded like it was about Bieber ... but we're told it had nothing to do with JB, and Sean just misses friends and family while on the road.

Italy court shooting: ‘Four dead, man arrested’ in Milan

(AFP) A gunman has been arrested after he shot dead three people at the Palace of Justice in the Italian city of Milan.
A fourth person was found dead at the court, from an apparent heart attack.
The suspect, Claudio Giardiello, was reportedly a defendant in a bankruptcy case. He was arrested in a Milan suburb after fleeing the scene on a motorbike.
The dead are said to include his former lawyer and a bankruptcy court judge. The shooting has prompted scrutiny of security procedures at the courthouse.
Questions are being asked about how Mr Giardiello managed to smuggle a weapon into a well-guarded building, use it several times and escape.
The suspect was arrested by carabinieri officers in Vimercate, about 25km (15 miles) north-east of central Milan, near the town of Monza.
Mr Giardiello, seen here in a picture released by police, was arrested on the outskirts of Milan
Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said the “presumed assassin” was now being held at a military police barracks in the Milan area.
The sound of gunfire had sparked panic inside the Palace of Justice on Wednesday morning.
Hundreds of people poured down stairways towards the exits while police and military police officers searched for the gunman.
“All of a sudden we heard at least three or four shots,” lawyer Marcello Ilia told the AFP news agency outside the building.
Women were first to be evacuated by police from the Palace of Justice
“We tried to find out what was going on. There were suddenly lots of police officers who told us not to leave the room, they shut us in,” he said.
“After a few minutes we came out. They told us someone in a suit and tie was armed and at large in the court.”
Citing officials and witnesses, the newspaper La Repubblica reported that the gunman had been attending a bankruptcy hearing when a fight broke out inside the third floor courtroom.
He pulled out a weapon and shot the lawyer, named as Lorenzo Alberto Claris Appiani, as well as another man, who is said to have been a co-defendant in the case.
According to La Repubblica, Mr Appiani was a former lawyer for Mr Giardiello who was acting as a witness in the case.
Police searched the building for the gunman but he managed to escape
The gunman then left the courtroom and headed to the office of appeals court judge, Fernando Ciampi, shooting him dead.
It is not known if the gunman had any links to the judge.
A fourth person was found dead inside the building after apparently suffering a heart attack.
Another two people were wounded and are being treated at a hospital.
After hiding inside the Palace of Justice for more than an hour, the gunman fled on a motorbike, according to La Repubblica.
Mr Giardiello was described as “aggressive” and “a little paranoid” by his former lawyer, Valerio Maraniello, in comments quoted by AFP news agency.

Jimi Agbaje Responds To Oba Of Lagos' Threat

Jimi Agbaje Responds to threat by Oba Of Lagos' . In his words on his facebook page:

In the words of Winston Churchill: "Never, never, never give up."

I'm aware of the intimidation that a lot of you might be facing as we head into the final stretch of this election campaign.

I get it. I understand what you are going through because I also had to face it in the course of this campaign, if this serves as any consolation.

One thing I've learnt in life, however, is that the people who threaten you, knowingly or unknowingly, further validate your importance and underscore advantage.

I would like to take this time to encourage you all not to respond to intimidation with violence but rather confront it with the collective power of your votes. Change is coming to Lagos. Tell your friends and families.

I hope you all had a pleasant Easter celebration.

Court orders DSTV to suspend increase in subscription fees

In March, MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, owners of DStv announced a 20% price increase for all its satellite pay TV bouquets in Nigeria. Multichoice said the increase, which was supposed to take effect from April 1st, was necessary for them to continue offering good quality programming to its subscribers. But the increase is not going to happen for now after a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos restrained the company from increasing the tariffs.

The restraining order was given at the court following a class action suit filed by two Lagos-based lawyers, Osasuyi Adebayo and Oluyinka Oyeniji, challenging the increase. The judge said there should be no increase until the court meets on April 16th to hear the case.

Hackers Hit ATMs In Lagos, Device Means To Collect Pins & ATM Card Data

ATMs located in highbrow areas in Lagos particularly in Victoria Island and Lekki, might have been compromised following reports of hackers planting fraud devices on some machines so as to get the pin codes and other details of the ATM cards of unsuspecting users and use them to carry out fraudulent activities.

A banker who spoke with Punch said “A number of the ATMs in Victoria Island and Lekki axis have been compromised by hackers.

Some of these fraudsters visit those ATMs very late in the night or very early in the morning to fix some fraud devices on them, which are capable of collecting cardholders’ information, including their passwords. They come back later to remove those devices.

The information collected is then used to commit fraud against those customers later.

Most of us (banks) are aware of the development and we are very vigilant now.

What some of us have done is to get a patrol team of security men to start combing the affected areas and the ATMs from time to time. We will get those guys soon.” the anonymous banker said

Also confirming the report, the Vice-Chairman, Committee of e-Banking Industry Heads, Mr. Dele Adeyinka said banks have recently installed anti-skimming devices on their ATMs so as to checkmate such illicit activities.

“Yes, it is true that hackers are carrying out those activities. It is not only in Victoria Island axis, they are doing it everywhere.

But all the banks have complied with the CBN directive on anti-fraud tools. So, it will be difficult for those fraud devices to work.”he said

While some of the cardholders’ information collected by the fraudsters were being used to commit online-related frauds locally, a large number was used to clone ATM cards and used to shop in malls abroad, especially in the US.

As a way to checkmate the activities of these fraudsters, the Central Bank of Nigeria in January this year issued a directive to all Nigerian banks to prevent payment cards (debit and credit) issued by them from working in fraud-prone countries, including the US, South Africa and China and that they would be liable for any fraudulent transaction carried out in those countries using a customers cloned ATM card.

The CBN in another circular released on February 1, 2015, instructed all Nigerian banks to stop the payment/ATM cards from working in non-Europay, MasterCard and Visa countries.

The circular stated that ATM cards that would work in designated countries must be activated only during the period the customer would be spending outside Nigeria.

The circular which was signed by the Director, Banking and Payment System, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, reads in part, “The occurrence of card present frauds in non-EMV environments is on the increase, especially when international hybrid cards issued by Nigerian banks are used in non-EMV environments like the USA.

It has, therefore, become necessary for the CBN to issue the following directives and that all DMBs should do the following: collate all their card frauds abroad and send to the CBN not later than January 30, 2015; subsequently, all data on card frauds occurring abroad should be rendered on the NIBSS fraud portal; implement anti-fraud solution on their card management systems not later than January 30, 2015; ensure that from February 1, 2015, only customers that expressly indicated the intention of travelling to non-EMV jurisdictions would have their cards default to the magnetic stripe and for the period indicated by the cardholder only.”

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are laughing off stories they're back together ... they're not.
Mariah posted a photo of the former couple at the Bronx Zoo with their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, captioning the pic, "Happy Easter!!! #ontheegghunt #NYiswild."
According to our sources, while the two talk every day, reconciliation is not in the cards. We're told they try to see each other once a week, sometimes with the kids and other times alone because they've become friends again.

We're told the divorce process has been easy --  it helps when there's a prenup -- but any sort of romantic relationship is ancient history. They both feel they're better off as friends.
