92 year old man sings love song to dying wife in heartbreaking video that has gone viral

An elderly man's sweet serenade to his dying wife while in hospice care is warming the hearts of viewers across the globe.
Erin Solari recorded her grandfather Howard Serena, 92, singing "You'll Never Know" by Rosemary Clooney and Harry James to his wife Laura, 93, on Sept. 12. Laura currently suffers from dementia.

"We knew that this was probably the last time, so we wanted to capture that moment," Solari told ABC News today. "It was really loving.

"For me, right after the video, I was so overcome," Solari added. "I broke down and started crying. I was so happy that I'd captured this moment for my family. It touched me, so it doesn't surprise me that it touched other people as well."

The elderly couple have nine children and 18 grandchildren. They've been married for 73 years.
Solari's heart-warming video was a hit on social media.

"It [the video] was posted minutes after it happened on Facebook and it had over 3 million views," she said. "I know it seems private, but my family is very proud and happy to share this love with the world. As for the feedback, all the love and support we've gotten, being around my grandmother, I believe it maybe it had a little bit of an impact of her feeling better. She's been able to go home and we are very appreciative of that as well."

After being told the video had gone viral, Laura remarked:

"I told you Howard that I'd make you famous."

Trado-medical practitioner, couple arrested over sale of two-week-old baby for N130,000

THE BUYER
BIOLOGICAL MOTHER AND CHILD
TRADO-MEDICAL PRACTITIONER

LAGOS—A couple and a trado- medical practitioner have been arrested over alleged sale of a two-week and four-day- -old baby for N136,000, at Ipaja area of Lagos.
The buyer
The principal suspect, Mr Onolaja Olawale, a trado-medical practitioner,  was alleged to have sold the baby to Mr and Mrs Dele  Ayogbile, who have been barren for six years  years,   last week, after informing them that the biological mother was dead.

But the bubble burst after co-tenants of the couple who claimed never to have seen Mrs Oluwakemi Ayogbinle pregnant, suspected foul play and contacted the police.

To the surprise of all, the baby, according to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects before journalists yesterday, was discovered to have been sold to the couple.

Preliminary investigation according to Owoseni, showed that the trado-medical practitioner was a family friend to parents of the baby he sold.

Mother of the baby, Mrs Idiat Babatunde, who had just concluded her Higher National Diploma, HND, at the  Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, claimed to have left the baby in the care of the Olawales, in their Ikola Ipaja home,  eight days after delivery (September 13, 2015).
biological-mother-and-child
Same day, she  reportedly left for school to conclude documentation in her faculty , towards  the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps.

But next day, the trado-medical practitioner was said to have invited the barren couple to come and pick a baby for adoption.

When approached, Olawale did not deny the allegation. Rather, he stated  that mother of the baby was aware of the planned adoption, alleging that she collected N70,000 of the initial payment of N136,000 for the sale of the baby.

He said: “Mrs Babatunde gave me the baby to take care of because my wife is also breastfeeding.  We have been family friends . But when I discovered that taking care of two children at the same same time was burdensome on my wife,  who gave birth through caesarean, I decided to give the baby to a client who I have been giving concoction for child birth.  I informed the baby’s biological mother before giving the baby out. I told her that the baby would be with the new mother for three months.

“I collected N130,000 from the new mother, Mrs Oluwakemi Ayogbinle, and an additional N6,000 which I said would be used to process adoption forms at Alausa, Ikeja, to avoid any embarrassment. I even gave the biological mother N70,000 out of the money.

“The actual amount I told the new parents was N300,000. But they only paid N136,000.”

But the biological mother denied knowledge of the sale of her baby, let alone collecting any money from Olawale. She explained that she dropped her baby with the Olawales on trust, with the intention of returning after one week  later for the baby.”

On her part, the woman who collected the baby from the trado-medical practitioner, blamed her action on  her state of barenness for six years. The climax of her predicament, according to her, came  when her husband abandoned her.

Ayogbile said: “I have been taking herbs from Mr Olawale since 2013 because of the incessant miscarriages.  After several effort to get pregnant proved abortive, my husband left our home last year.

“At a point, Olawale suggested I should adopt a baby. He called me on Monday to come for a baby. I decided to contact my husband because of the amount Olawale demanded. But my husband insisted that he must have documents to  back up the adoption before he would take the baby. So, he brought N136,000 as part payment.”

Aviation ministry promises smooth flight operations

The Federal Ministry of Aviation has assured Nigerians at home and those on pilgrimage to Mecca of smooth flight operations during and after the Eid el-Kabir celebrations.

A statement signed by Mr James Odaudu, an Assistant Director, Press and Public Affairs in the ministry, on Wednesday in Abuja, stated that the Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Binta Bello gave the assurance in a congratulatory message to Nigerian Muslims as they join other faithful worldwide to mark the end of the year’s pilgrimage.

It stated that the Bello had directed all agencies of the ministry to ensure safe and uninterrupted flight operations, promptness of flights, safety and security of passengers at all the nation’s airports during the celebration.

According to the statement, Bello also warned airline operators against using the usual rush to exploit travellers.

She charged the operators to make their operations more passenger-centred with serious attention to flight availability and timeliness, comfort of passengers and safe practices.

She assures the nation of the safety of Nigerian airports as confirmed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) during its recent security audit of the nation’s aviation facilities.

Bello added that the collaboration between aviation security and other relevant agencies had resulted in a “robust and an almost unassailable security set-up at the airports”.

The statement further said that the Permanent Secretary gave assurance that with the ministry’s close collaboration with the National Hajj Commission, airline operators and the Saudi authorities, the return airlift of pilgrims would be safe, smooth and on schedule.

“Bello called on all Nigerians, irrespective of religious leanings, to support the Buhari Administration in its drive to reposition not only the aviation sector, but other facets of the nation’s endeavours,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, witnessed heavy passenger movement on Wednesday to different parts of the country for Eid el-Kabir celebration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the traffic was more on the domestic wing and the departure section of the airport.

Mr Abdullahi Saroke, the Deputy Station Manager, Azman Airline, told NAN that the passengers turnout was not as expected, adding that people were not travelling as it used to be during festive period.

Saroke said that airlines were not experiencing the usual rush associated with travelling during celebration, adding that all their flights were on time.

“The turnout of passengers is not as expected, compared to what we used to have during celebrations like this but it is okay.

“There is nothing like flight delays and cancellation on our side here and all the passengers are adequately taken care of accordingly,’’ he said.

A traveller, Malam Umar Abubakar, said he did not experience the usual rush as expected and commended the Federal Government for the expansion of the airport.

He said he was travelling to Kano to celebrate the Eid el-Kabir with his family and prayed for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria.

Mrs Habiba Audu, a Civil Servant, said she was travelling to Ilorin to celebrate the Eid el-Kabir with her family, adding that her flight was for 2 p.m.

Audu urged the government to complete the ongoing construction work at the airport as quickly as possible, to solve the problem of gridlock on the road to the terminal.

Ambode promises job creation through entertainment; hosts US actor, Danny Glover

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday promised that his administration will explore the potentials that abound in the entertainment and arts industry as a viable platform to create jobs for the teeming youths in the state.

The Governor made this assertion when some members of cast and crew of ’93 Days’, a film which chronicles how Lagos was able to effectively contain the Ebola Virus Disease last year, paid a courtesy visit to him at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

He assured the team, led by veteran Hollywood actor, Mr. Danny Glover, that his government will give the necessary support to project the ideals of the film, stressing that the collective feat recorded will remain a milestone in the history of the state

“Clearly, what you have done to join hands with our people in Nollywood is to celebrate one of the major successes of Lagos State”.

“Our government will support this project. No story can be told better than in graphic from, and once you are turning this story to a movie, it means that every other part of achievement that we can put together, it’s going to be something historic, it’s happening for the very first time, apart from the fact that it is showing the way government has been able to respond to issues that relate to the society, we are also showcasing what Lagos stands for”.

The Governor while thanking the crew for deeming it fit to use the film to retell the Ebola success story in Lagos, also seized the opportunity to name Mr. Glover as Brand Ambassador for Lagos, saying that his wealth of experience will benefit the entertainment industry in the state immensely.

“I can say that this is a platform to rebrand Lagos and for that reason, we would support this film and everything that has to do with it. Like I said, we would be looking forward to the premiere and I’ve told Danny that he has to be part of it  and bring his experience and social-capital into it and he’ll be coming with other world class actors to do that, we would join in promoting this also”.

“That means a lot to us and it would also mean a lot to the entertainment industry. It would be part of the legacies that you would be leaving to us here because as much as we look forward to all the great things that you have achieved, we believe also that this would also be part the celebration for your 70th birthday next year”, he said.

“As we move forward, in 2017, Lagos will be 50 years, so, Lagos at 50 is something that we are planning and the planning must start from now and it has so much to do with entertainment and things that are actually monumental and iconic. I’ve also extended invitation to Danny Glover and he would be part of that celebration come 2017”, the Governor said.

He said his administration will continue to support the strides of Nollywood industry, expressing optimism that aside providing entertainment to the eyes, the industry has the capacity to stimulate job creation for youths in the state.

Earlier, Glover said the film ’93 Days’ acknowledged the efforts of the state government in curtailing the Ebola Virus Disease adding that it was not a mean feat.

He welcomed his nomination as brand Ambassador for the state, saying he shares the vision of Governor Ambode to further project Lagos as a Centre of Excellence.

He also pledged to engage in works that will encourage upcoming artist to fully actualize their potentials.

Suspected cattle rustlers kill 35 persons in Niger community — Village head

An unspecified number of people were killed on Tuesday evening by gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger, the police and community sources said.

A village head in the area, who pledged anonymity, told news on Wednesday that the victims included the district Head of Allawa in Shiroro, a police inspector and 33 others.

The community leader said the attackers, numbering about 40 and using machine guns and other dangerous weapons, were believed to be Fulani herdsmen.

He said the operation lasted some two hours during which the attackers set more than 25 houses ablaze and injured many.

The village head said many of the villagers had been displaced as a result of the incident.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger, ASP Bala Elkana, said that the command had yet to confirm the number of casualties.

Elkana said a policeman was among those killed and added that the incident occurred in the night.

He said because of the lack of communication between Allawa and other parts of the state, the security agencies could not respond on time.

Elkana said “the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Marafa, has dispatched the Divisional Police Officer in Kagara and the Police Area Commander in Minna to the troubled village to assess the situation and bring back a report.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian Army has been battling with cattle rustlers in Shiroro Local Government Area.

The Army recently recovered 184 cows and 83 sheep from suspected cattle rustlers and handed them over to the Chairman of Munya Local Government, Alhaji Abdulkadir Bida, to enable their owners to claim them.

Eid-el-Kabir: Corps Marshal urges road users to obey traffic rules

Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has called on road users to be God-fearing and obey all traffic laws while driving during the Ed-el-Kabir holidays.

Oyeyemi made this call on Wednesday in his Ed-el-Kabir message which was signed by his Media Assistant, Mr Sani Abdullahi.

“Eid el-Kabir teaches us how to show obedience to God in all that we do as human beings because the celebration centres on devotion and obedience to the will of God.

“Prophet Ibrahim exemplified these virtues through his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail, to God in fulfilment of his promise to Him.

“As Muslim Ummah observes the feast, let everyone celebrate with the spirit of obedience to God and recognise the sanctity of human lives by obeying all traffic rules and regulations.

“They should also avoid any act capable of undermining safety of other road users,’’ he said.

Oyeyemi further urged motorists to avoid overloading, speed violation, dangerous driving and making phone calls while driving, saying it is only the living that can celebrate.

He called on Nigerians to assist the commission and other agencies to manage the traffic, by conducting themselves in safe and orderly manner.

The FRSC boss said the agency’s patrol and rescue teams have been put on alert to assist road travellers during the festival.

Oyeyemi appealed to members of the public to immediately notify FRSC of any emergency through its emergency line: 0700-CALL-FRSC (0700-22553772) or Toll-free line: 122 for prompt response.

The Corps Marshal wished all Nigerians happy motoring and safe Eid-el-Kabir celebration

Roy Jones Jr. Putin On 1st Fight In Russia ... It's Official, Comrade

Looks like that goodwill meeting with Vladimir Putin worked ... because Roy Jones Jr. tells TMZ Sports he just booked his first fight in Mother Russia.

RJJ just reached out and told us he'll be fighting Welsh bigman Enzo Maccarinelli on November 28th.

Enzo is a former WBO cruiserweight champ ... who's fighting to regain his belt on October 10th.

If Enzo wins that belt, the Jones fight would be a title bout.

This is big news because Jones just flew out to Moscow for a face-to-face with Putin -- and asked for Russian citizenship so he could do business in Vlad's country.

Jones has said his ultimate goal is to help repair U.S./Russia relations.

Workers in LASU begin count down for VC

Ahead of the end of tenure for the embattled Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof John Obafunwa, the workers have began a count down for his exit with two large banners placed at the two main gates indicating days remaining for him to leave office.
The two large banners were placed at the Main gate along the Badagry Expressway and the Iba Expressway of the university and every day the date is changed by an unknown person to reflect the number of days remaining for Prof Obafunwa’s tenure to end.
Since March 16 when Prof Obafunwa was chased out of the campus by the workers, he has not used his office till date. He has been operating from his personal office at the Lagos State University College of Medicine.
The wordings on the two banners are the same and its reads: ‘’Count down, 51 days to go: The end of evil at sight’’ an indication that the VC tenures would end on Saturday, October 31.
Investigations revealed that the two banners were placed two weeks ago and it started with 51 days to go and nobody knows who placed the banners or who changes the date every day.
The leadership of the three staff unions have distanced themselves from the banners and visitors to the university read it when they pass through the gates.
Meanwhile, the embattled VC may have been ruled out of the race for the next vice chancellor as the advert criteria states applicants must possess PhD degree.
The staff unions have consistently stated that Prof Obafunwa does not possess Masters and PhD, thus he was not qualify to hold the position. Recently ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge urged his members in LASU to insist on PhD holders for the plum job.
Investigations revealed that many Professors within the system interested in the VC position are consulting colleagues and stakeholders outside the institution for support before applying for the plum job.
Among the eight criteria required from candidates for the post of VC include the possession of doctorate degree.
The selection of the new VC would be a major job for the new Governing Council members headed by Prof Bayo Ninalowo aside resolving the numerous demands of the staff unions.

Boko Haram suspect arrested in Lagos

A suspected member of the Boko Haram sect identified as Abdullahi Adamu has been arrested by Security operatives attached to Operation Mesa (OP Mesa) in Ijora area of Lagos State following a tip-off by residents of the community.
The suspect, identified as Abdullahi Adamu, was apprehended during a raid carried out by operatives of the security outfit comprising the Army and the State Security Service (SSS).
According to The Nation, the raid, which took place at the Ijora 7-Up area of Lagos, came after a tip-off on the activities of a terror network allegedly co-ordinated by Iranians.

The suspects was arrested after soldiers ransacked one of the buildings in the area. Adamu was said to have concealed some devices suspected to be explosives in boxes, which were stacked in the ceiling of the house.  Also recovered alongside the suspected explosives were two AK47 rifles.

Commenting on the arrest, the paramount ruler of Ijora community, Oba Fatai Ojora said

"We have been calling on the state government to do something about this. This is the second time we will arrest Boko Haram suspects in this community and nothing has been done on that. The one we caught now had even admitted that he is a terrorist. You know that majority of the northerners in Lagos live in Ijora, Agege and Badia.’’he said

Another member of the community who spoke on condition of anonymity said “People came to me that they saw one man on the internet and that he is a member of Boko Haram, saying they know where he lives. They said they are going to his house and identify him. They arrested him and handed him to Oba of Ojora,” he said.

Stoke survived a late onslaught from Championship Fulham to reach the fourth round of the League Cup.

Peter Crouch fired Stoke ahead after combining with Peter Odemwingie to register his first goal of the season.

Ross McCormack came close to equalising for Fulham in the second half but failed to make telling contact with Ben Pringle's cross when three yards out.

Odemwingie was then wasteful from close range before Dan Burn shot against the bar for Fulham late on.

Stoke are yet to win in the Premier League this season but held on to reach the last 16, with Potters goalkeeper Shay Given also clawing out Lasse Vigen Christensen's shot as Fulham came on strong in the final minutes.

It was Stoke boss Mark Hughes's first win at Craven Cottage since he left the club acrimoniously in 2011.

Linda Villumsen wins time-trial gold at World Championships UCI World Road Championships 2015

New Zealand's Linda Villumsen won gold in the women's individual time trial at the Road Cycling World Championships in Richmond, Virginia.

Hayley Simmonds, Britain's sole entrant, finished 26th.

The 42-year-old American Kristin Armstrong, who came out of retirement earlier this year, went out second and led for almost three hours before slipping down to fifth.

It was Villumsen who first beat Armstrong's time as she claimed victory at an event in which she has won two silver and three bronze medals in the past five years.

"I can't believe it," she said. "I came with a big motivation and had the best team behind me. It's an incredible feeling.

Robert Lewandowski scored five goals in nine minutes after coming on as a substitute for Bayern Munich in their Bundesliga victory against Wolfsburg.

Bayern trailed 1-0 at half-time, when Lewandowski came on for Thiago.

Six minutes later, the Poland international netted his first goal of the night from close range.

Lewandowski added four more in quick succession to record the fastest five goals scored by one player in Bundesliga history.

Follow reaction to Bayern's win at home to Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg, who finished second behind Bayern and won the German Cup last season, took the lead when Daniel Caligiuri beat Manuel Neuer at his near post.

The away side almost added a spectacular second from 60 yards when Josuha Guilavogui's lob dropped just wide.

But Lewandowski's introduction changed the game, as the 27-year-old produced a clinical striking display.

Three of his goals were from close range, with his second driven powerfully from outside the box and his fifth a brilliant acrobatic effort.

The win sees Pep Guardiola's Bayern go top of the table, three points clear of Borussia Dortmund, who play Hoffenheim on Wednesday. Wolfsburg are third

Diego Costa: Chelsea striker banned for three matches

Diego Costa will miss Chelsea's next three matches after a Football Association charge of violent conduct was upheld.

Costa had denied the charge, relating to an incident with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny in the 2-0 win over Arsenal.

The charge was upheld at an independent hearing on Tuesday.

Costa, 26, put his hands in Koscielny's face before clashing with Gabriel, who was sent off but had a three-game ban overturned earlier on Tuesday.

Arsenal defender Gabriel, 24, was sent off by referee Mike Dean for violent conduct after raising his leg and catching Spain international Costa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Costa's ban covers Chelsea's League Cup match at Walsall on Wednesday along with Premier League matches against Newcastle and Southampton.

Having confirmed the match officials did not see the incident between Costa and Koscielny, the FA supplied video footage to a panel of three former elite referees.

Each had to independently rule Costa's actions to be an instant red card for the FA to proceed with the charge.

The FA has also charged Gabriel with improper conduct failing to leave the pitch immediately after being sent off, and both clubs with failing to control their players.

All three parties have until 18:00 BST on Thursday to reply to those charges.
