Give it to the multiple award winning actor, Mike
Ezuruonye. He is indeed very talented and has a
knack for roles interpretation.
He has in a short while rose to be added to the
A-list actors in Nollywood with over 70 movies to
his credit.
In a recent interview with Sun Newspaper, the
proud father of one revealed that no actor can
actually take the position of another, thus no one
can take his place in the Nigeria movie industry.
"I have said it many times, there is nothing like
taking anybody’s position. In science, we were
taught that one star in the sky is bigger than the
whole earth; so it is in Nollywood, so it is in the
African art. You have so much space; all you
have to do is pitch your own tent.
You cannot take away those icons. You cannot
take away Ramsey Nouah out of the movie
industry. You cannot have Nollywood without a
Ramsey, you cannot have the African movie
industry without a Rita Dominic, you cannot know
about Nollywood without having a Joke Silva or
Olu Jacobs or an Nkem Owoh. All these people
are iconic, you cannot take their place – it’s just
not possible.
It is like a farmyard, just come and pitch your
own tent so that people will now know that it is
you, and you’re an icon for what you represent."
The fair complexioned cute dude also went down
memory lane to recall what his growing up days
was like.
"I don’t like talking about that, but I want to
believe that I was born by parents who could
afford certain amenities. And of course, they were
disciplinarians. They also taught me self-belief.
My dad always says: ‘always believe in yourself,
always put your head up anywhere you are to
answer your name’. And that has always driven
me because even as an upcoming actor I was
never scared; I respected my seniors, I respected
the established stars and I always had a good
thing about that."
Before anyone could attain success in life, he or
she must go through certain challenges, Mike
Ezuruonye is not an exception. He tells his own
story.
"The merits outweigh the demerits. The
challenges are that you longer have a life;
everybody wants to know you. It’s left to you to
now find your inner self, your inner being, to find
those who know you properly and be yourself. For
me, I always don’t put the pressure of how
popular I am on me. I always tell myself – that I
should be a good representation for my craft, for
my family, and of course because of the
allegiance I owe people, I have to represent them
well. I’m a regular guy and the only difference is
that I’m on TV so, that doesn’t put pressure on
me.
Mike Ezuruonye is a regular guy who eats the
basic things you get from the everyday market.
He is a regular guy who doesn’t go out too much,
his best companions remain his way back friends
– people who knew him when he was nothing. He
is somebody who loves and always wants to
tangle with the commandment of ‘love your
neighbour as yourself’. I have respect for
everybody. I’m somebody who builds a lot of
goodwill."
He also recalled one his embarrassing moments
as super star actor.
"Funny enough, it wasn’t even in Africa. It was in
the US, and the woman is from Trinidad and
Tobago. As organized as the place was, she got a
shirt and put it on the ground and said to me,
‘please Mike, just touch the shirt for me and I
promise I’m going keep it, I’m not washing it’.
That was so deep for me

Today In History: The Day Gen. Sanni Abacha Seized Government

November 17, 1993 is one of the most notable dates in Nigerian history. That day, General Sanni Abacha seized the government and became Nigeria’s seventh military dictator.

The incident happened at a time when Nigeria was in free fall.

Ibrahim Babangida had just left government having ruled for eight years. The economy was bleeding.

Institutions were collapsing. Corruption and fraud had become the backbone of the society.

Mustapha is one of the people who lived through the era.

He says, “All the 419, fraud, corruption you see today have their roots in the Babangida era.

Those things were not only acceptable, they were the norm. You could defraud anyone as long as you were smart enough.

All kinds of wrong things began to happen — smuggling, bunkering, drugs — and Babangida encouraged it.

Fraud and corruption became the prevalent ways to really make money. The society descended into utter depravity.”

That year, after Babangida cancelled results of the June presidential election that Abiola won, there were riots in some parts of the country especially the south-west.

A lot of Nigerians had looked forward to 1993 as the year they’d be free from dictatorship, and they put their hope in Abiola and the 1993 election. They called it Hope ’93.

So they were both furious and gutted when Babangida nullified the election and held on to power.

As the country boiled and support for Babangida faded, he set up an interim government in August and appointed Ernest Shonekan to head it, with Abacha as the vice. Then he left Aso Rock.

Some people believe he stepped aside as part of a calculation to tacitly work his way back into Aso Rock.

Anyway, people rejected the interim government, rioting continued and a federal court declared the government illegal.

The situation grew more chaotic. In the middle of this, Abiola and his supporters continued to heap pressure on the government in order to force a change in his favour.

Three months later, it happened.

That day, Abacha and his soldiers marched into Aso Rock and coerced Shonekan to resign. Then he took over the government.

Timothy says, “Many of us were very happy when Abacha took over.

We just wanted Shonekan to go away.

His government didn’t get any respect.

We didn’t vote for him. Someone just picked him and installed him there.

Nobody wanted him. In fact I think if the interim government had lasted some more time, there would been catastrophe, because Shonekan didn’t have the mandate of the people and he couldn’t control the army since he wasn’t the constitutional head of state.

So when Abacha kicked him out, I was relieved and hopeful again that we would soon have our man, MKO, in the place.”

But Abacha obviously wasn’t interested in that direction. Soon after he became head of state, he began a bloody tyranny that Nigerians who lived under his rule would never forget.

Mustapha says, “If there’s anything that Abacha would be remembered for, it is that his regime was a regime when blood flowed freely.

They imprisoned. They killed.

Abacha had people killed either because they were opposition or because he needed them for human sacrifice as his witches wanted.

You’ll just see a brand new car park, people would step out and shoot someone and drive away. That was the end. He was merciless.”

“By then, life was tortuous for the common Nigerian,” says Bose. “That time, things were not as costly as now.

If you had N100, you could cook a potful of soup with a lot of meat and all that. But how would you get that N100? You couldn’t even get kerosene.

It got to a time, because of the hardship, people invented a stove called Abacha stove (everyone remembers it till today).

That stove, you get an empty tin and stuff it with saw dust.

Then you add a little kerosene and light it. You’re ready to cook. Such was the poverty that we suffered.”

“I remember that it was around then I lost my bank job because the bank downsized,” Deborah says.

“I was a single mother living with my two kids in Lagos.

I became so poor that I had to relocate with my children to my home town.

At least, my mother would take care of us there and we would live with her. We won’t have to pay rent.”

Nigerians endured all that for five years while Abacha continued his plot to remain in power for as long as he was alive.

Then on June 8, 1998, he died.

Deborah says, “I remember my daughter was watching the news and I was sitting outside with neighbours.

Then she came to tell us she heard in the news that Abacha was dead. You should see the joy! We danced.

we sang. We wept. We had never been that joyful in a long time. Even the Hausas in the kiosk across the street were rejoicing.

“My girl was only nine and didn’t understand what was going on.

So she asked me why everyone was so excited to hear that a man died.

I told her, ‘Juliana, that man was a bad man who tormented us, and now that he’s dead, we have hope for the future again.”

Johnny Depp DRUNK at Awards Show

Johnny Depp was either really drunk Friday night at the Hollywood Film Awards, or ... who are we kidding, he was really drunk.

Depp was presenting the best documentary award to “Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon” ... but it took about 3 seconds to realize the actor had partaken at the table.

CBS eventually cut to a commercial after Depp rambled on, dropping a few cuss words ... and guess who was still there when they came back from break, ready to hand off the award?

The film's director told Variety the whole thing was very rock and roll.

Yeah, in a Joplin-y sort of way.

Obasanjo & IBB Shun Jonathan’s Second Term Declaration

President Jonathan had on Tuesday, November 11, officially declared his intent to run for the 2015 presidential elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

Obasanjo and former military dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida were absent at the event, though both are members of the PDP.

Babaginda was one the presidential aspirants contesting alongside Jonathan in 2011 on the platform of the PDP but he lost to Jonathan.

Obasanjo was a former chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, who later resigned his position over some disagreements with the way he said the party was being handled.

There have been speculations that Obasanjo was not in support of Jonathan’s second term bid because of an alleged agreement between Jonathan and the leadership of PDP in 2011, that he would serve only one term.

In February, Obasanjo had said Jonathan promised not to serve beyond a single term during the 2011 election campaigns.

However, the PDP had debunked his claims, stressing that President Goodluck Jonathan did not sign any agreement to serve for a single term in office.

Meanwhile, Jonathan’s self assessment at his declaration has been trailed with mixed reactions.

Jonathan should transform Abuja first to prove he can solve Nigeria's problems - Fashola

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola addressed youths at a summit organised by the Youth Wing of the (APC) in Lagos yesterday Nov. 11. Speaking on the theme of the summit, “A New Nigeria by New Nigerians", he said that after years of Pres. Jonathan leading Abuja, first as an acting president and later his four-year presidential tenure, the Federal Capital still has challenges of irregular power supply, water shortage, poor accommodation, poor transportation, poor traffic management&security.
"If Mr. President had managed the FCT well, there should be regular power supply at the centre of attraction in the country. I was in Abuja recently and I got hooked-up in traffic. So many things are not working in Abuja, the seat of our federal government. In Lagos, we have strived to add value to peoples’ lives and living.
We have demonstrated what a good government should be seen doing and that is why Lagos is attractive to people from far and near. The president should transform Abuja first for people to see. A new Nigeria that we desire should be a safer and more secured Nigeria, where our children will not be kidnapped and we will not be bombed out of existence but can live our lives to the fullest and we can enjoy electricity. In the new Nigeria, citizens expect government to account for resources and put an end to the frequent disappearance of billions of dollars from the federation account without cogent explanation.” He said

Beyonce To Drop Second Album In Secret

Though she crooned “probably won’t make no money off this, oh well” in the ghostly tune “Haunted,” Beyonce did, in fact, make a pretty penny off her fifth self-titled studio album. Shocking fans and critics alike when she dropped the unpublicized visual album on iTunes on Dec. 13, 2013, Queen Bey, 33, sold more than 800,000 copies in just three days and shattered iTunes digital album sale records. It has since sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.

So it makes sense that with the one-year anniversary of the historic album a little more than a month away, rumors are beginning to swirl that the “Flawless” singer could be looking to pull another Houdini and drop a second secret album.

circulated online over the weekend, which appeared to be an album release confirmation from Parkwood Entertainment (the superstar’s production company) and Columbia Records titled “Beyonce - Self Titled - Volume 2.” The release date on the document (which could totally be Photoshopped) notes that the digital copy will be available on iTunes on Friday, Nov. 14 and a physical four-disc copy goes on sale on Monday, Nov. 25.

The document says that featured artists include Blue Ivy, Drake, Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Frank Ocean, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, and feminist speaker Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, whose Ted Talks speech “We Should All Be Feminists” is so memorably excerpted in “Flawless.”
It appears to be a deluxe version of last December’s instant-classic album with 11 new songs, including the “Flawless” remix featuring Minaj. The document also claims the physical copy will feature DVDs of 28 music videos, the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, and the On the Run Tour performance from Paris, which was featured in the HBO special in October.

Beyonce’s Destiny’s Child bandmate Michelle Williams appeared on Watch What Happens Live where she was grilled by host Andy Cohen about the potential album.
