ASUU Demands Release Of Kidnapped Uniosun Asuu Chairman’s Wife

The Academic Staff Union of Universities‎ has demanded an unconditional release of the wife of Dr. Seye Abiona, who is the chairman of its Osun State University chapter.

Mrs Abiona was kidnapped on Friday night and taken to an undisclosed location by his captors. The kidnappers are asking for N50m ransom before she could be released.

Speaking in Ibadan on Monday after attending a special congress of the union at the University of Osun, Ibadan Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Prof. Olusegun Ajiboye, asked both the Federal Government and Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State to justify their status as the commander-in-chief and chief security officer respectively by securing the release of the lecturer’s wife.

Ajiboye, who said the kidnap was a major challenge to the union ‎who had always fought for the emancipation of the masses, urged the kidnappers to release Mrs Abiona without any condition attached.

“The reality of Nigeria has dawn on us all. I am extremely sad that our country has degenerated this much. I want to appeal to the kidnappers to free their victim unharmed and unconditionally. We are also victims in this country. We are poorly paid. We fight injustices and fight for the downtrodden,” Ajiboye said.

Dr. Ademola Aremu, who is the National Treasurer of the union, called on Aregbesola to do all within his power to ensure that the abducted woman was released.
He said, “We are not the type to be kidnapped or be visited by armed robbers. We do not have the kind of money robbers and kidnappers are looking for because we are not politicians.”
